Entanglement Now

The surrealist absurdist and poetic world of Rotterdam-based artist Silvia B. (1963) revolves around social engagement, lust for life and sensuality. In her new sculpture series Entanglement, she connects the fragility of nature with that of new generations and reflects on their inextricable connection in an uncertain future.

That uncertain future echoes in the titles of the works, such as: Eden’s Expansion, Juni’s Longings, Kaya’s Journey, Platy’s Party, and Karan’s Sparkle. The titles refer to desires, dreams, hopes, ambition, and the search for freedom and meaning among young generations. They have yet to find their way, while the social pressure to live a perfect Instagram-worthy life and see the world as their stage is as great as the pressure to live simply and naturally to save that same world.

The sculptures in this series show a fluid line between nature and culture, capturing both the celebration and drama of human existence. Silvia B. invites us to reflect on this duality and our own place within this complex reality. Immerse yourself in the visual poetry of Entanglement Now and discover the deeper connections between ourselves, nature, and the future.

AND:

Silvia B. has created a sketch design for a sculpture commissioned by the Rotterdamsch Studenten Gezelschap (RSG) to commemorate their 100th anniversary, inspired by their motto “for greater growth and bloom.” The sculpture proposal, which is displayed as a scale model in this exhibition, features a tree from which legs sprout in a vibrant diversity. These legs symbolize the students who are rooted in their time at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) and who, after graduation, move in various directions. The RSG has expressed its intention to gift the sculpture to the EUR upon its completion.
